Wishing all our students and readers a peaceful and productive time over the Christmas period.
I am sorry that the On-line Workshop had to closer earlier than usual this autumn to accommodate my commitments. We were not able to cover much ground in the shorter-than-usual term, but I hope that you found what small amount we did useful, especially our review of Saturn, in which we looked at the matter of choice, and at how intelligent, authentic lifestyle choices are the route to freedom, provided we know who we are and where we want to go. That sense of purpose defines an individual.
Underpinning this is a choice that, although it will impact upon lifestyle, I consider more than a lifestyle choice. It is a choice about how to view the world.
The esotericist knows that what we throw up our hands in horror about and have the vapours over is the constant of the human condition. We and all the zillions of generations before us are caught up in what the Gnostics of Alexandria called the Slipping of Aeons; (all the spiritual traditions have their own name for it, but I happen to like this one), brought about by the descent of Spirit into matter. It is a process older than God; indeed it made God; it is making our expanding Universe and it makes the perception out of which surely every one of those zillion generations has made an existential crisis. The personality may perceive that our world is heading towards ruin but the esotericist knows that it is not so; and as part of an esoteric school we are expected to understand why it is not so, and to recognise that the face and features of the process may change and involve dramatic developments, but the process itself never stops and never will stop. It is how we and every other kingdom in nature come to selfhood. It is built into the System and it is for us to develop suitable expectations.
We ourselves have come to selfhood and then to individuality through it, and we live, mostly, in the
West, which has to come an appreciation of the value of these things through the same process. What is required of us, as spiritually aware individuals, is to make a relationship with the process that enables us to steer our own lives in a way that does justice to what we say we matters. This way we offer encouragement to others. Spirituality can guide us in this. If it cannot fix anything in the outer world, it can encourage us to position ourselves with awareness so that we are using our lives and time purposefully, to climb slowly up the down-staircase, because this is how, once it can no longer serve us, we escape the ceaseless and unstoppable decent of Spirit ever deeper into matter. As we climb up so we develop ourselves individually and the human family collectively. The choice that we have is not to stop the process, but to avoid getting flushed down the pan by it. This means working tirelessly with our suitable expectations. This has been the role of spirituality ever; contributing whatever our creative capacity can offer to the raising of awareness is the role of spirituality now.
I feel as though I have been writing about this all my life, but it seems to me to be more important than ever as I watch lives consumed by angst, drama, false perspectives and negativity, fuelled by the Internet and the fact that talk has never been cheaper. Clients tell me that their grandchildren as young as 8&9 are talking about suicide; by the age of 14 they have researched it pretty thoroughly.
We are making a conscious choice to distance DKF-K from this spreading of negativity, because no matter how (self) righteous its packaging and presentation, playing the outrage card and baying like hounds in a pack at the opposition it is not worth a damn spiritually. Master DK said that to be anti anything (Saturn in its Third modality) is to undermine our cause with negativity.
Saturn in its Fourth modularity supports activism that is part of a purposeful commitment to engage maturely with the ideas in circulation in society and that sets an observable example of how to do things differently and how to be in opposition to the status quo positively. Then we stay open minded. Nothing closes the mind and shuts down communication like the sense of being right
The world does not need anymore people who think they are right. We have 7bn of them already; it needs people who simply know who they are, what they are about, what they can contribute to the development of human potential through their daily lives, and how to hold their ground.
In its Fourth modality, we choose to value our individuality lives, we choose to look for opportunities, and we choose to behave like aware individuals who know that it
is our responsibility to be positive because that creates the fertile soil of new opportunities.
Saturnís Third modality (which is the Saturn of the separated personality) or that of the Fourth modality (which is the Saturn of the soul-aligned individual)? I consider that this is the fundamental choice that we have to make as spiritual aspirants now.
