The
placement of Uranus in the houses of universal consciousness should remind
us that developing individuality is a developmental imperative, and it is
something that we have to emerge from the group to do. When at a higher
turn in the spiral of developing consciousness we turn back to the group,
it is with the means to make an intentional and creative contribution that
will benefit the group and those whose cause it serves.
This,
in effect, is the purpose behind incarnation itself,
Uranus
in the ninth house
With
Uranus in the ninth house, a person is ready to make the distinction
between the spiritual and the religious and to free himself from form. A
person with this placement is usually very resistant to being confined
within one religious form. Frequently, especially in the younger years,
there will be a lot of experimentation with different religious
traditions, especially those which are significant different from those
contained within the culture of birth, and from this experimentation will
come an awareness of what, for that person, represents Truth. Later in the
life a person with this placement will usually be following his or her own
path, and removed from all kinds of religious organisation.
Uranus
in the tenth house
With
Uranus in the tenth house a person is being freed from a reliance upon
external authority and is likely to be fiercely resistant to authority
figures, starting with the father. The attitude to authority may be
anywhere in the spectrum between overt rebellion and quiet noncompliance
but people with this placement will be resistant to hierarchy and
bureaucracy which they perceive as erosive of individuality. Many people
with this placement will move away from the country of birth (the
fatherland) and most will change jobs and lifestyles frequently during the
course of their lives until they feel that the outer structure of their
lives is a true reflection of their values. Some will never find any
structure within which they can live for long, so compelling is the need
for freedom from any kind of social constraint.
The
placement of Saturn and the Moon should provide insight in the nature of
the past life constraints against which there is such a pronounced
reaction in this lifetime.
Uranus
in the eleventh house
In
the eleventh house, Uranus is in its own house and the job that it has to
do is to encourage discernment by making a person aware of what he does
not want or like about group activity so that he is better able to
recognise what is positive. People with this placement are usually very
aware of and resistant to brainwashing and collective hysteria, and fear
for their individuality in a group setting. But Uranus in its own house is
aware that death and isolation are synonyms and will encourage a person to
reconnect with organised activity on terms that are more acceptable to
him.
The
eleventh house is also the house of children after
birth. (The eleventh house is the fifth from the seventh i.e., is
concerned with the creative product of relationship). Parents with Uranus
in the eleventh may have to go through a period of separation, sometimes
enforced, from their children in order to regain their own sense of
identity and to reinvest in their own lives.
Uranus
in the twelfth house
The
effects of Uranus in the twelfth house are subtle but the theme is still
that of the need to separate out from the anonymity of the group. When the
twelfth house is involved the restriction upon the individual in past life
has been contained within the nature of the spirituality, which has
discouraged a focus upon the separated self.
The sign and position of Saturn and the Moon should provide further
detail about the nature of the inhibition.
Owing
to its subtly, a person with this placement may fail to bring the
challenge to consciousness or cooperate intentionally with the
developmental imperative, in which case they may go through life with a
sense of sadness that their individuality is not strong enough to earn
them recognition and attention but too strong to enable them to lose
themselves and their pain in union, the knowledge of which they have.
Because the twelfth house is involved the sadness remains a secret, as do
other existential crises arising in the House of Pisces.
In
next month’s article we will focus upon the twelfth house and look again
at this much-misunderstood place in the chart.
