The Foundation Students

Work In Progress

Work in Progress: DKF Students share their work

The D.K. Foundation is now five years old and in that time many students have been and gone and some who arrived early on are still with us, making real progress. Each student featured in Work in Progress has made headway because he or she has cleared a space in their lives to make room for their astrological studies and worked consistently hard.

In Work in Progress these students share their work and are willing to answer any questions that interested website visitors might want put to them, whether those questions are about their work, their experience of being with the Foundation, or about astrology in general. There is no party line. Students are encouraged to speak honestly about their experiences.

  Samir Boutalbi

Samir lives in Brussels, Belgium and works in a university Student Affairs department, offering guidance to potential and new students and handling applications.

His personal interest is in spirituality, from the philosophical angle but also from the point of view of its application in everyday life. The Sagittarian theme is strong in Samir’s life. He is a natural questor and his quest for understanding has taken him into many different occult and healing activities.

He became a Foundation student in order to give more structure to his knowledge and to learn to apply it in a more effective manner.

The Water Signs

CANCER

a

-         experience brought to the personality = awareness of the past

-         contribution made through this sign = new forms to bring through the past

-         key to understanding its energy = it is concerned with perpetuation

Watery, emotional nature - Initiating quality - Personality focus

Seeks to find and gather nurturing energies in its shelter / sanctuary. Concerned with the inner life. Opens up a gateway to a certain sensibility and sensitivity.

Emergence of what is sensed / felt within and the need to protect and nurture it, concerned with the way outside influences are met with from within. Need for isolation, keeps things inside and hidden.

General characteristics (unconscious and conscious):

-         Recognizes emotional needs and seeks to find ways to meet them.

-         Takes what she feels into account, introduces feeling and sensitivity as an element of importance. Relies on the instincts, reacts to situations from within. Intuitive energy that is tuned into unconscious vibrations.

-         Need to bundle, concentrate the shaping energies of life, to obtain an impression that is lucid and long lasting.

-         Self-preservation and preservation of what is considered as having (affective) value. Sustaining life, survival.

-         Finds it important to create boundaries to establish a new position and starting place, sometimes to the point of imprisonment. Thrifty energy.

-         Fusion. Urge to become a focal point for the life-energies. (Recurrent appearance of life in form?) Seeks to identify and connect with the source.

-         Deep desire to feel for others, depth of feelings and vulnerability.

-         Nurturing, caring receptive energy that wants to help and lend an empathic ear or a shoulder to cry on. Takes responsibility to respond to others in a caring manner – sensitive and affectionate energy.

-         Sees life from a collectivist point of view. Matriarchal sign, needs to run the family and clan.

-         Awakening of irrational, instinctive, biological forces, felt within, which gives birth to the emotions. May disturb the personality and result in fear for (personal) disintegration and anarchy in general, and the necessity to contain those forces.

-         Can be inclined to ever changing moods, cyclic aspect. Can appear hypersensitive and be easily hurt – can be self-pitying, clinging, secretive, self-pitying. If deprived of the vital security, issues may border on the ridiculous, giving lunatic behaviour. If insecure, can be smothering, possessive and pampering.

-         Attraction to that which is old or has a history – that which has existed and survived the trials of time, provides a feeling of security.

-         Tendency to hoard things because they have sentimental value – adds personal (‘affective’) value to things.

Reflections:

·     Takes the own emotions into account, introduces feeling and sensitivity as an element of importance and a criterion when making decisions.

·        Uses the sensation of ‘feeling at home’ as criterion for well-being and to choose her course of action.

·        Attaches itself to what feels like belonging to the self, lends it affective value.

·        Importance of community structures (family, clan, nation) handed down through generations, as a tool for managing this new type of energy.

CONSCIOUS :

·        Integration of inner values (as sensed from within) into outward actions.

SCORPIO

e

-         experience brought to the personality = understanding of the power of emotion

-         contribution made through this sign = awareness

-         key to understanding its energy = the fear of defeat on the emotional level, leading to rejection and suffering

Watery, emotional nature - Persevering quality - Soul focus

Fight against the self, which most of the time leads to victory and results in an inner balance. Then the self-destruction stops and the spiritual strength of ones awareness / consciousness is able to reach a higher level, and one rises above the self (eagle)

Great courage, steady and deep determination to struggle with the emotions that leads to transformation towards a more mature and consciously developed sensitivity and perception.

Willingness to work intensely with the raw and emotional nature of humanity to prepare for and achieve a more subtle type of awareness and life.

General characteristics (unconscious and conscious):

-         Descent into the depths. Confrontation of the ideals with the personality at the deepest possible level, need to get to the core of issues. Deepening of the perception developed in Libra.

-         This energy compels the individual to free himself from the limitations of the self, to reach the ecstatic condition where he rises above such limitations.

-         Struggle of the personality to release itself from the grip of lower desire. Reorientation following the midway point, according to the findings of Libra.

-         Death of the ego in the traditional sense.

-         Sexuality in its social aspect, not its reproductive, the drive in each individual to join in a complete union with other individuals to come to a greater organic unity. The desire to be a separated individual is overwhelmed by the urge to be more than just that, to loose the self and join with the larger whole, but through the other, through a deep psychic identification with the other.

-         Romantic ideal of the passionate union of two lovers, in which they break through their self-centredness.

-         Transcendence of the mystic, who joins with their God, their master or simply life (the mystic other).

-         But also the definite union and identification of the individual with the community so longed for, which was envisioned in Libra. The energy involved is civilizing because it finds its roots in the desire to identify the self with the larger unity, humanity. Establishing right relations with the environment.

-         This rebirth as a participant in community life, transformation by burning through restrictions and limitations, leads to regeneration and prepares the next stage, mental and spiritual.

-         Spontaneous healing powers are available. Powerhouse of the zodiac.

-         Tendency to absorb and identify with societal processes, and to be affected by the state of society in general, positive as well as negative.

-         The more negative side to the energy released in this process, the darker side of civilization, the greedy desire for social power and luxury, manifests in the individual who, instead of joining in, attracts the energy and the resources of the community for personal use.

-         Sign of karmic retribution.

-         Concept of social sin: the abuse of the results of social interaction like in financial transactions, public authority, ... These individuals may come to manipulate the fears and passions of others to gain social power, instead of inspiring their community.

-         Also the permanent and unrestricted desire for sexual pleasure and satisfaction, where one uses the available energy to stimulate the desire or where the longing to join in the flow of energy is thwarted by other beings or groups. Luxury as a result of a feeling of being defeated, a deep frustration.

-         Destructive patterns as a result of the perversion of the creative power by fears and complexes, originating in useless ethic traditionalism or chaotic and negative social surroundings.

-         Resentment towards society or even life itself, may unconsciously maintain a state of violence that destroys all attempts at releasing those destructive patterns and reaching the next step. (Social death leading to individual death.)

-         In this sense, the personality may appear as ruthless, cruel, jealous, ambitious and extremely destructive.

-         Testing of the natural predilections and tendencies of the animal nature (sex, physical comfort and money as concretised energy), of the desire nature (fear, hatred, ambition or desire for power) and of the lower critical mind (pride, separativeness and cruelty).

Reflections:

·        Can get stuck in the ‘marshes’ of the emotions, destructive emotional intensity, brings out the worst in the individual, attracts and absorbs negativity.

·        Very inquisitive and perceptive, able to scrutinize the motives of others and the way they deal with each other, sometimes leading to (emotional) abuse.

CONSCIOUS :

·        Very keen perception of others and of what’s going on in one’s surroundings, ability to pierce through veils to get to the core of even the most deep-seated problems.

·        Perception of the possibility of merging with others and with life that will be fully achievable in Pisces.

PISCES

i

-         experience brought to the personality = merging with others

-         contribution made through this sign = the higher vision

-         key to understanding its energy = the desire to escape personality consciousness and merge with the soul

Watery, emotional nature - Experimenting quality - Soul focus

Mysticism, silence, isolation, retirement, need to live ones life from deep within, very profoundly and intensely, based on the inner life. Devotional and compassionate. Sense of forgiveness and sacrifice, romanticism and artistry.

Much more subtle sensitivity leads to mystic experiences.

Blending of a refined inner sensitivity and higher awareness, willingness and ability to sacrifice the lower identity, to enter an ‘invisible and holy’ community.

General characteristics (unconscious and conscious):

-         Impulse towards a more universal consciousness, urge to let go of materialism, the life of form.

-         Devoted and helpful, preoccupied by service and pacification. Renunciation, chooses compassion over solitary bliss. Able to share the abundance of her existence with all other beings. Understands that, in truth and in reality, there is no such thing as individual salvation. Belief in the organic unity of humanity, but on a higher level also of all life.

-         Deep faith in, reverence for, surrender and dedication to life. Wise. Passive. Learns to give where there are needs.

-         Selfless, open and empathic energy. Innate capacity to feel for others and sense their hurts.

-         Mediator-ship, capacity to relate the higher and the lower (expressions of divinity).

-         Needs to give up her trust in (social) structures that are no longer useful, and learn to open up to the inner conscience and step into the unknown. Release from captivity or bondage.

-         Disintegration of that which is rigid and opposes change, decay and end of established order. Loss of stability and security and all that belongs to the past and gave the impression of being valuable.

-         Holy and saintly sign. Energy that cleanses and purifies (fast, penance), makes impeccable.

-         Confrontation with the most mysterious and transcendent type of spirituality, that requires total release of illusions, falsifications and appearances (final death of the personality?) and a deep belief in service and simplicity.

-         “They seek to bring about the death of the form in its occult significance and the consequent release of the indwelling lives into a higher state of consciousness.” EA.

-         Also heroic urge to give in to the stream of energies that reaches the depths of one’s being, and to become a beacon for others (positive aspect of martyrdom).

-         Feelings can be larger than life, oceanic and overwhelming.

-         Sometimes shy and sentimental, secretive. Self-pitying, fearful and hopeless when unwilling to face this new and strange kind of energy.

-         Can lead to isolation and retreat from society, removed from other people. Permanent unrest and a feeling that everything is futile and temporary, may result in a type of selfish spiritual attitude which involves dreaming, fantasizing or conceiving useless abstract concepts to fill up the emptiness.

-         Unintelligent receptiveness and intuition.

-         Passivity and latency, inhibited and hindered, emotionally sensitive, controlled by her form nature and her environment. May still be too attached to material things.

-         Need for help in introspection to solve problems due to psychic energies that have been introverted and have become rigid. This can be the result of individual failure to accept and surrender, but also of destructive and deceitful traditions of the family, religion or society.

-         Concept that generations may have to suffer and bear the consequences of collective mistakes (‘sins’).

Reflections:

·        Sensitive and impressionable. Becomes too adaptive to social and external influences instead of tuning in to a more subtle reality.

·        Hard to get to know, mysterious, elusive, uses denial to avoid sensitive issues, especially denial of the self in order not to look at her own flaws.

·        Escapist, may see consumption of drugs as a way out of the reality of incarnation, a negative and destructive ‘way’ to deal with materialism.

CONSCIOUS :

·        Compassionate, able to care for others without neglecting nor emphasising the importance of her own life.

·        Able to go with the flow of life as sensed from within. Instinctive sense of freedom, and of the necessity to let go of useless conditioning and identification.

Senses that the limitations of culture and tradition as well as society and civilization must be sacrificed to reach the next level.
