Gymea Lily – (
Doryanthes Exelsa)

My first choice for this series is a magnificent tall and proud flower. This plant has over one metre-long sword-like leaves that surround a flower spike of up to six metres high, which bears a large cluster of bright red flowers. It blooms in spring and summer.

I feel that PURPOSE ought to be the second name of this plant.

Imagine yourself being this plant – tall, strong, proud, not scared of showing who it is, and lets nothing get in the way of being what it is.

You can utilise the energy of this plant when you feel that you have extraordinary qualities but fear has allowed you to conform to societies rules and regulation. This plant can help you to break free from the norm to find and live your passion that has been suppressed. Be who you are and do what you have to do, without being worried of what other people think. People feel often threatened if their dear-ones break the norm and will try and hold you down. Often these people are happy with their world on the surface, but have somewhere a doubt that there should be more than this, but are scared to challenge their current lives. When you change the norm, it threatens their current existence. If you are different deep down inside and want to get your act into gear, this remedy will help you to be strong in yourself when you break away from your normal ‘fearful’ self or when others try to pull you down with their negativity. The red/orange colour of this flower will put you firmly in your base and sacral chakra, therefore grounding you in your purpose.

When you look at this plant, you can maybe also imagine being intimidated by this huge dominant image of this 6-meter (ca.10ft) tall plant.

Therefore, the remedy can also be good for people who are too dominant, arrogant, extrovert and maybe attention seeking. They usually get their own way. They can come across as menacing to people who are much less confident. It will help to temper their force and help them to become aware of other’s feelings and allow others to participate and contribute. It helps them to find humility.

It will help younger ones to feel special in their own right, and stop craving glamour and status.

Red is the colour of passion, which this remedy will enhance within you. The red-orange colour of this plant will resonate with the base and sacral chakra.

Remember though, that a healthy person needs to operate from all chakras to be balanced and whole.

The base chakra relates to:

The right to be here: simply to exist, take care of ourselves, and have possessions.
Fear: Comes when one’s survival is threatened. May force energy into the upper chakras.

The sacral chakra relates to:

The right to feel: to express and understand one’s emotions, needs, and wants.
Guilt: Keeps us from reaching out, hindering emotional and sexual ties with others.
