‘The
Glastonbury Giants or Zodiac is the greatest antiquity in Somerset, as yet
little known, though it is at once the oldest and largest find in the
country.
These
giant effigies are formed by roads, paths, waterways natural and
artificial, by the contours of the land and by prehistoric
earthworks...and consist of the figures of the Zodiac in their correct
sequence... Their heads are oriented towards the centre, facing west, and
there is much evidence in other ways to show that they have been
deliberately planned.’
Mary
Caine
The
artist and authoress Mary Caine b. 1917 has continued the work for the
Glastonbury Zodiac started by Katharine Maltwood 1878 - 1961.
Mary
was still a very young person when in the 1930s, Katharine began the
recovery of the Glastonbury Zodiac, believed to date back to 2700 BC, for
the modern Age. As Katharine was dying, Mary was passed the
baton and she has dedicated herself to breathing life and human interest
into the symbols that her predecessor, a sculptress and Theosophist, had
identified in the landscape around Glastonbury. For Mary, the Zodiac
describes the journey of humanity towards union with the soul, and this
circle of land some 30 miles in circumference, representing the heavens on
Earth, if consciously activated, could assist and support us in so many
ways, as each of us makes this often exhausting, confusing and dispiriting
journey in our own lives.
In
time to come, DK Foundation students and maybe even some of the visitors
to our web site will become aware of the debt we owe to Mary for her
contribution towards restoring this Mystery.
We
are handling orders for her two publications on the Glastonbury Zodiac and
the video on the same subject.
