Boab
– (Adansonia
Gibbosa (gregorii))
|
Boab or
its African counterpart Baobab (Adansonia Digitata) is a huge tree
that can live over 1000 years. It can obtain a girth of up to 25
metres but does generally not grow higher than 15 metres.
The
only thing that grows around this tree in a circular pattern is its
offspring and somehow it doesn’t allow anything else to grow
around it. Frequently a
number of smaller Boabs can merge and form into one tree. |

There
are stories about African women giving birth in this tree, (the old trees
are hollow), they enter before labour starts and come out some time after
the birth. In some parts of Australia it is tradition to give an
aboriginal woman in labour Boab flowers if the tree is in flowering
season. She would then go off by herself to have the baby and deliver it
in a hole in the ground lined with the Boab flowers, so that the first
contact of the baby is with these flowers.
The
Doctrine of signatures (please refer to previous article ‘fear of
living’ for explanation) are quite amazing. If these trees were a human
family, one could imagine the strong family ties that are in place; a
tight-knit family that doesn’t allow any changes from tradition, nor
allows family members to stray away. The ancient matriarch or patriarch is
watching close by over the shoulder of the siblings.
This
remedy is useful to help cutting the ancestral ties that holds one back.
To clear dysfunctional, limiting, emotional and mental beliefs that are
carried on from generation onto generation. The phrase ‘I am just like
my mother/father/ grandparent’ or ‘I have this same habit just
like…’ shows that these ties are in place and that you might have to
look at making a change, for these habits are not you, but learned
attitudes that actually hold you back. Don’t copy your parents mistakes
by being ignorant. This remedy allows you to take a fresh look at your
parents or grandparents and objectively see their traits, thus allowing
you to cut those family ties and behavioural patterns. Do you keep
repeating the same mistakes as one of your elders? Did your mum get
pregnant at 16 and so did you? Do you hold resentment and anger just like
the all the rest of your relatives? Just think of the worst aspects of
your parents and if you have some of these traits, you will benefit from
this flower essence. It is extremely difficult to escape these handed down
traits and negative patterns, as when we grew up, we adopted our
parents’ character and habits as they were our role-models. Your parents
probably did the same ‘adopting’ from their parents.
All
issues like these will respond to Boab Essence. It is not surprising that
African tribes or aborigines like their baby to be in touch with this tree
as it will give them a head start in life by cutting inherent ties and
therefore setting them free with just their own personality to start life
of with.
The trunks of
the older trees are hollow and hold vast quantities of water. Water
relates to emotions and therefore this remedy can access deeply stored
away (negative) emotional patterns, particularly if one is focussing on a
specific issue, Boab will help to release it.
| Large baobab trees with hollow stems have been used
for centuries for various purposes including houses, prisons, pubs,
storage barns, and even as bus stops! |

The flower of the boab is yellow-green at its base,
going to creamy-white.
Yellow is the colour of courage, assertiveness and self-esteem
and green is the colour of love, kindness and affection. |
The solar plexus chakra relates to:
The right to act: To be innovative and free.
Yellow strengthens individuality, self-worth,
confidence and freedom of choice.
The heart chakra
relates to:
The right to love and be
loved: Freedom from projected or received prejudice, low self-esteem, and
violent conflict.
Green can help to detach
when feelings are running high.
