THE MAP OF THE CHAKRAS 2
This month, I will continue to write about the chakras. This second article in this series covers the Sacral Chakra.

Sacral Chakra—Svadisthana—Second Chakra

Orange
Location: Abdomen, Genitals, Lower Back, Hips
Focus: Sexuality, Desire, Emotions
Orientation: Self-preservation
Rights: Self-gratification
Identity: Pleasure, Creative, Emotional
Demon: Guilt
Esoteric: This chakra governs the gonads
Goal:
To experience joy in life this chakra has to function optimally. Our joy and passion for life get hampered if we allow others to set our boundaries. The majority of the population is living out of this centre rather than the heart. The media is targeting us by advertising goods that we ‘need’ in order to be acceptable and desirable, the size of body we need to have and that to be ultimately fulfilled, one needs a good sex-life and have material goods to show one is living successfully. Most of humanity accepts this view of life that has been created to fulfil our basic ‘desire-nature’. We have become stuck in it. Do these things really bring pleasure? The trap is then a vicious circle. We need ever more material wealth, beauty, clothes, alcohol etc to fulfil this emptiness that we feel inside.
Pleasure is also enjoying the beauty of nature, dance and art. When liberated from the negative side of this chakra, this appreciation grows deeper and is then transformed to a desire to be creative oneself. This chakra has a special link with the 5th or throat chakra, as this is the second ‘creative’ centre. The energy takes the line of least resistance. Both centres can be used for expressing higher forms of creativity. The Sacral centre has the passion that is expressed in the Throat centre.
In people where the throat chakra is blocked, the chakra below, the heart, and the sacral chakra will invariably be out of balance too. Women who have period problems may have the problem arising because of a blocked throat or heart centre. These centres may have to be treated first or alongside the sacral chakra. Men of course can have similar problems with the prostate area.
Excessive characteristics: Overly emotional, obsessive attachments, poor boundaries, sex/drugs/alcohol addiction, jealousy, fashion-victims
Deficient characteristics: Emotional numbness, fear of pleasure, frigidity / impotence, rigidity
These characteristics can lead to problems with: Kidneys, bladder, uterus, prostate, pelvis, sexual organs
Ailments:
Infertility, impotence, menstrual disorders, fibroids, endometriosis, cystitis, STD’s and PID
